Rise & Shine in the Events Industry

Updated: Sep 20, 2018

We've all had our fair share of experiences in what it takes to put up a successful show. It can be your friend’s birthday party, your sibling’s marriage, your graduation or anything along those lines. The rush of excitement during the planning phase and the jitters during its execution, is what makes the event so special.

Haven’t you ever wondered how cool would it be, to do this for a living? Well, Event Management and Planning fulfills that criteria, fills your pocket and makes sure you never get bored while working! Which is why the event industry is blossoming today with more and more companies and individuals entering the market.

Believe it or not, we all have an event planner inside of us. Of course, the journey of becoming successful, in any stream, isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. There are certain inherent qualities like good communication skills, love for details, pro activeness, problem solving ability, etc. that can add to your success story. But to be able to brush up those skills, with practice and theory, is what makes that event planner in you ready to fight the competition, shine and grow.

Here are a few reasons why a career in Event Management is a great pathway to reach the stars in the business world:

1. You will never run out of work.

Events is an evergreen industry. There will always be a need for efficient event planners all throughout the year. No matter what the situation is, people all over the world are constantly planning marriages, meetings, conferences, parties, events, etc. As long as this need exists, your events career will be as smooth flowing as ever.

2. The thrill and passion is everlasting.

The entire process of hosting, managing and planning details like the decor, food, theme, venue, etc. promises as much thrill as the amount of energy it takes up. The rush of adrenaline when it is finally ‘show time’ - the most crucial point of your job, will hit you every time you organize an event. It will always keep you on your toes and you will always be up to something new. The passion never dies.

3. There will never be a dull, monotonous day.

This industry promises that those who enter it, will never have to experience the monotonous life of a 9 to 5 job. It is one of the most ‘eventful’ jobs one can have. There will be a new challenge everyday. Your creativity will be put to test every time you are expected to come up with a new concept or idea. One day you will be planning a grand destination wedding, while, the very next day, you might have to plan a formal corporate meeting. No two days will ever be the same. While this may seem a little broad and general, one can always choose their focus of expertise!

4. You can choose the role you want to play.

The event industry is so much more than just planning parties and meetings. There is a huge diversity in the number of roles one can take up and the positions one can hold. You could be an event manager , planner, coordinator, the production head, a public relations officer, a budgeting & finance executive, an audio/visual expert, a caterer, decorator, so on and so forth. The list is never ending. You can also create your own category!

5. You can travel and take your career with you anywhere in the world.

Travelling teaches you more than anything else can. Once you have established yourself as an event manage/planner , you can use your skill anywhere in the world! It provides a great scope for travelling and an exposure to different cultures, traditions and people. Holidaying and working, hand-in-hand. Doesn’t it sound fun?

6. Helps in making a strong personal brand.

Working in the events industry exposes you to contrasting situations and personalities. Dealing with them grooms your personality. You can become a pro at minor but essential qualities like the way you should talk, the way you should dress, the way you should present yourself in front of others.

7. Hard work always pays off.

And it pays off well, literally and figuratively. There is nothing better than seeing an event, that you worked on so hard, come to life. The satisfaction along with a bunch of happy customers, is the best reward. The chances of them recommending your services to others increases, and the business prospers. Money, the second most crucial reward, is also taken care of. The better your service, the better your business, the greater amount of money you make. (Not to forget that the events industry is expected to cross Rs 10,000 crore mark by 2020-21 in India. Cherry on the top, isn’t it?)
